Accessory Dwelling Units, ADU, has been popular to be set up next to Single Family Homes, either to rent out, or house a family member. And very recently, the container concept as ADU has been approved by a new legislation in State of Colorado. Following that, S3DA Design did present its new 20ft Expandable concept for that specific area through a local Sales rep, which drew some homeowners’ attention.
One of them, a Denver businessman, was looking for a separate guest room in his backyard as he found their home not spacey enough for such a purpose. As the unit was a model, it can be totally customized. As such S3DA Design is now helping him to make it tailored to his specifications. The unit is made of a 20ft HQ container, initially 160 square feet and 9’6" tall, which falls within the Building Codes, under official size, 200sqft and 10ft tall for an accessory dwelling unit. However, the unit is expandable and you can open up one side, draw the glassy structure out and make it a bit larger, 250sqft space, with Solar power and plumbed for a simple kitchen sink. Totally affordable and no need for further permit nor new property. It can be placed just next to your home. But remember, the setbacks should be considered.
